Trinny Penny and the two sided coin

The Nearly Congruous Yet Altogether Confounding and Contradicting Conversations of Trinny Penny

 Scene 1

Trinny Penny: You haven’t ever spoken in tongues?

Average Addy: No, I haven’t.

Trinny Penny: I’m praying that you do.

Average Addy: I’m not sure that I want to.

Trinny Penny: What do you mean? Being baptized in the Holy Ghost is a great blessing from God.

Average Addy: I’m already blessed.

Trinny Penny: I’m not saying that God hasn’t blessed you, but how can you be a person of faith and not want all that God has for you?

Average Addy: I always feel like you are criticizing me when we talk about this. I am a believer too, you know.

Trinny Penny: Of course I know that you are a believer. You are a great girl. I know that you have faith and love the Lord. God will honor that faith and lead you deeper if you will let Him.

Average Addy: Listen, we don’t speak in tongues at my church. It’s not something that we believe. In fact, my pastor says that you can be baptized in the Holy Ghost without speaking in tongues.

Trinny Penny: Read the book of Acts. Tongues were always the sign that they had been baptized in the Spirit. Always!

Average Addy: Just because that is what they did back then doesn’t mean that I have to today.

Trinny Penny: Have to? It is a privilege. Acts 2:39 specifically states that the promise is for everyone that is called of God.

Average Addy: Prove that I have to speak in tongues to be saved.

Trinny Penny: What do you mean prove it? What about faith? What about believing and seeking God and doing it His way? The Holy Ghost gives us power to overcome sin and glorify Christ.

Average Addy: I know that you are sincere, but I’m from a different tradition. If God wants me to be baptized in the Spirit, He will reveal it to me.

Trinny Penny: He already did in the Bible. The book of Acts is the only book that shows conversions in the New Testament church. They repeatedly and consistently sought for the Holy Ghost and spoke in tongues as the evidence that they had received it. It’s a bit arrogant to expect God to have to give you a personal word because you won’t submit to His written Word.

Average Addy: I guess I just can’t see it.

Trinny Penny: Are you willing to see it? You have to be willing to be honest, set aside tradition, and submit. I can tell you that no one that I have ever met regrets being baptized with the Holy Ghost. If they have regrets, it is only that they didn’t experience it sooner.

Average Addy: The majority of Christians disagree with you.

Trinny Penny: The majority doesn’t decide Truth.

Average Addy: To be honest, all you’ve done is make me doubt. These questions don’t help me. Why can’t you accept that I’m not Pentecostal so I believe differently?

Trinny Penny: This isn’t about becoming a Pentecostal. This isn’t a denomination or branch of Christianity thing. This is a God thing. It is a Bible thing. You need to experience it.

Scene 2

Solo Dios: You haven’t been baptized in Jesus name?

Trinny Penny: No, I haven’t.

Solo Dios: I’m praying that you do.

Trinny Penny: I’m not sure that I want to.

Solo Dios: What do you mean? Being baptized in the name of Jesus is a great blessing from God.

Solo Dios: Of course I know that you are a believer. You are a great guy. I know that you have faith and love the Lord. God will honor that faith and lead you deeper if you will let Him.

Trinny Penny: Listen, we don’t baptize in Jesus name at my church. It’s not something that we believe. In fact, my pastor says that you can be baptized without invoking the name.

Solo Dios: Read the book of Acts. Baptism was always and exclusively in the name of Jesus. Always!

Trinny Penny: Just because that is what they did back then doesn’t mean that I have to today.

Solo Dios: Have to? It is a privilege. Acts 2:38 specifically states that everyone must be baptized in the name of Jesus.

Trinny Penny: Prove that I have to be baptized in Jesus name to be saved.

Solo Dios: What do you mean prove it? What about faith? What about believing and seeking God and doing it His way? Baptism in the name of Jesus is for the forgiveness of sins and glorifies Christ.

Trinny Penny: I know that you are sincere, but I’m from a different tradition. If God wants me to be baptized in Jesus name, He will reveal it to me.

Solo Dios: He already did in the Bible. The book of Acts is the only book that shows conversions in the New Testament church. Solo Dios: The majority doesn’t decide truth.

Trinny Penny: To be honest, all you’ve done is make me doubt. These questions don’t help me. Why can’t you accept that I’m not a member of the United Pentecostal Church so I believe differently?

Solo Dios: This isn’t about becoming a member of the United Pentecostal Church. This isn’t a denomination or branch of Christianity thing. This is a God thing. It is a Bible thing. You need to experience it.
